So how many more times should I try grading this one? It is a damaged jewelry piece, so having it grade as a D is the only way grading makes sense.
I already submitted it to anacs.... AFTER I tried it at NGC. Specified weak D both times. Is there any chance it ISN'T one? I've only seen the scalloped edged on the D coins... but I don't really see that listed anywhere as a diagnostic.
I've made more than a dozen over the years, and am quite confident that yours is a Weak D. What you're up against is the TPG's desire to avoid perceived responsibility for some unwary buyer ultimately paying too much for the coin if they attribute it as a weak D in their holder. Not all sellers can be trusted to price coins appropriately. By the way, I could see absolutely no trace of the D on your coin . . . I almost always had to submit more than once to get coins like that properly attributed.
I currently have 2 weak D's that are easily visible that I cherry picked, and I had a third, already mentioned, that I had to submit twice to ngc before they labeled it as such. That one also had no D visible at all. I'm pretty sure this is one too, I just don't know how many times I want to submit it to get them to agree. At $50ish a pop, it eats up future potential profit.
I don't know anything about this particular variety. Therefore I cannot tell you if it is a Weak D or not, but you seem like a nice guy so I'll agree with others and say it is.
