I believe that it will go AU-55! Although there are only a couple of rivets worn on the Shield, there is just enough wear on Miss Liberty's head, leg and drapery that it would not go MS-60! It is also hard to tell but the coin may have been dipped. Frank
I was thinking AU-55 as well when I purchased it but then I compared it to this photo of a NGC AU-55 speciman and now I'm thinking maybe mine could be a little nicer.
Treashunt, Someday we need to figure out why your computer is unable to just click on these pictures and enlarge them.
Nice coin, most standing liberty quarters are very worn from what i've seen but this one looks great!
Looking at the reverse, the lettering(States) area shows some blue dot's perhaps from a marker at one time or another. Doe's anyone else think this coin has been gently washed or cleaned? You can see a small amount on the obverse as well.?? Help me understand what I am seeing here> RickieB
Okay, based on your bigger and better pics, I will bump my assessment up to an AU-58 but a TPG might give it an MS-60 due to eye appeal! Also, based on the pic of the Obverse, the NGC AU-55 1918 Quarter IMHO is overgraded and should be graded an AU-50. Frank
Those "blue dots" you are seeing on the reverse appear to be dirt or grime of some kind. It only appears on the part by the lettering in "States". There aren't any spots on the obverse at all. The dealer I bought this coin from had two examples. One looked to me like it might have been dipped. I passed on that coin. But I was thinking this coin looked like it had much of its original mint luster intact and so I decided to take a chance on it. But I guess it's difficult to know for sure whether or not a coin has ever been gently dipped in the past.
Don't know the grade, but it looks nice to me. Good feather detail and also all the detail is on the armoring on Liberty...something thats hard to find, at least for me. Guy~
