What is your opinion on buying counterfeit coins? I found a coin on eBay, it's an obvious counterfeit. The coin is copper, and priced at $8 when there are only about 100 know examples of this coin, they are all gold, and sell for at least $20,000. I have no hope of ever getting a real example, but a decent copy might be nice.

My problem is, this copy probably is worth less than $0.01 and the seller is trying to pass it off as a genuine coin. Should I reward this behavior because I want the coin, or do I turn them into eBay for selling fakes?

This is the coin on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/North-Song-Dy-C...oryZ4740QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    This is the original coin:

It looks like the seller specializes in fakes of every type. Looking at his feedback, he seems to sell a lot to the same people, and they all look like they buy and sell the same items over and over.

    Thanks,
    David

email a question asking if the coin is genuine, if he states it is, report him to ebay, if he says it is not, tell him to add that fact to his auctions.

Yes, I buy fakes if something will cost a couple of thousand dollars, but only very good ones or contempory ones.
