Here is an 1806 half dollar. This coin is not in good conditions. It has definitely been cleaned, and as i found out (after i bought it, and the dealer long gone). it was also scratched and then smoothed on both the obverse and reverse.

This coin also has a large cud on the top part of the shield, which i am curious about. I hope you can see this on the photo. Years ago i remember seeing this same variety on a Bowers & Merena catalogue. They called it the "Broken patch on shield" variety. Unfortunately i no longer have that catalogue to reference. Therefore i would really appreciate it if anybody with a
Overton book could confirm if this is that variety, and whether it is a rare one. (In spite of its many problems).

Once again, thank you all for your comments to the various coins that i have posted. I hope i am not taxing your patience. I am learning a lot, and am now beter able to document the pieces in my colllection. Thanks to you.

    eduard:
    Nice piece.
    It is an O-120a.
    (Obverse 10-s3, reverse: P-s2)

It is between an R-4 and a R-5.
Depending upon the die crack progression.

    My pleasure.
    And a lot of fun.
You should look back at some of bonedigger's bust half dollars.

Thank you Frank for the kind words. Eduard, your 1806 is a fantastic and HTF example. There is some album toning I see around the edges. I've seen other coins which look like it and the owners can claim never being cleaned at all... Your example certainly doesn't look to be harshly scrubbed.

    Take Care
