Perusing Vcoins this morning I came across this interesting piece.

I've never priced or sought after Roman erotic tokens before, but the asking price floored me.

That is a bit expensive.

Not my collecting area but I could see how it would be of historical interest.

 

It may not be what it appears—LOL! It may be an image of an ancient Roman dentist performing a tooth extraction.

 

How could you present such a straight-line in a forum that admits none of the best responses?

 

The price is believable when accounting for the usual fixed-price markup (the seller probably expects haggling). Have you seen what these go for at auction? They don't come up often but when they do, the bidding is exuberant.

I'd collect them easily, but the cost is horrid.

The only trouble I ever got into on here was because of one of these.

 

I think some are seeing sexual activity, when it's obvious to me that the coins are actually depicting ancient chiropractic adjustments.
Seriously expensive though, WOW.

 

So many other coins I would rather have for that kind of money.

 

Especially knowing there are soooo many fake ones out there : no way it is safe sex

That's my concern. They don't look hard to fake. Ancient erotica was popular in the Renaissance and many of these could have been made for sixteenth century collectors. Concerns have been raised over some quite famous erotic 'antiquities'.
