These are fairly common there are several one in the blue plastic, another housed in an aluminum disc. Most I've seen have Mercury dimes, but have seen so Roosevelt also.

One other side note in the mid 60's smack dab in the middle of the "Atomic Age" owning something that was irradiated was very cool..... however anyone ever having a dental x-ray was also irradiated so that said no one has ever sold a patient who has had a full mouth series. lol...
Still a very cool piece of that time period neat piece of history .

I spent 14 years working on Navy reactors... I've been irradiated enough....

I remember the day I spent at the Worlds Fair. I was 11, had a few dollars in my pocket and roamed the fairgrounds by myself...I do remember seeing James Bond's Aston Martin, the new Mustang, talking on a video phone and riding in the amphibious car at the lake.... I also have a World's Fair token and the ticket stub to the lake...

Now xrays can be done with such low levels required that the technicians don't wrap you in lead or even hide behind a lead wall. Digital and instantly available, no film.

I know 10 years ago, digital xrays still had you wrapped and the tech cleared the area.

That's good news for those getting xrays. Much of my exposure was a result of time spent as a technician on a refueling/defueling team working in submarine reactor compartments. These high radiation areas far exceeded 100 millirems per hour.

That sounds pretty strong, are you ok?

That Fukashima thing where they couldn't build robots robust enough to withstand the exposure needed to do some patch work was fascinating and had me curious if tasks like had you exposed had been automated.

MDO, what period of time was that?

I have a friend around the Big Easy that now works a position much similar to the electrical grid's air traffic controller.

Did submarine nukes for several years.

I remember sparking......that's what we called it......you take you GF to a dark area to park....well that was part two.....place a wintergreen lifesaver in your molars and bite down....large green sparks shoot across your mouth. Once dazzled by that sparking.....all you needed to do is pay attention to the 3rd base coach and see if you were being waved in....;)

Just recently got a shipment of NutriSystems food (gotta' try and drop some weight) and was wondering about the room temperature sealed meals and if they were sterilized by being irradiated. When I was in undergraduate college, I went to a talk by a scientist who was working on preserving food by irradiating it. I remember he had a hamburger sealed in plastic that he said he had been carrying in his hip pocket for over a year...still looked OK.

Not me!! Just a guy I heard speak back in the 60's. Too many people afraid of something being "radioactive", although spices brought into the US have been irradiated for many years to kill pests.
