I am trying to collect early date walking liberty halves to complete the set. I am looking for coins in the F to XF range and certified; however, these are very difficult to find even at shows. I think I will need to find a larger or national show to see if they are available. Have any of you had experiences in collecting these?

I am looking for the early tough coins with grades varying from F to Maybe AU. I also want them certified and I am paranoid about buying on eBay. I very rarely see these at shops and local shows.

No options? Nothing is over until I say it's over! Did the Americans give up when the Nazis invaded
Pearl Harbor? Hell no! This set will be completed, it'll take a lot of time, a lot of cash and a lot of grief from my wife and kids, but God willing this will be a beautiful complete set.

Your best option would be to contact dealers and ask them to look for these coins for you.

Just about any coin there is, a dealer can get it just by trying. Between his dealer contacts, (and since about 80% of all dealer's business is with other dealers he will have a lot of contacts), and the electronic dealer networks, they can find pretty much any coin in any grade at any given time. But you first have to get them to look for you. And, it will also have to be worth their while.

This is why establishing relationships with dealers is so important to collectors. They see a thousand times the number of coins that you'll ever see. They all have way more contacts than you do or ever will.

All in good fun. If you're buying certified, I'd go with a reputable Ebay dealer

I was joking dude! check Bluto's Knute Rocknesque pep talk in Animal House. I was hoping to add a little Oddball inspiration from Kelly's Heroes but that will be for a later date.

To start the journey to complete this set, I am looking at this beauty. Any thoughts?

Nice!!! Is this coin #1 of your walking lib set? Or do you already have a head start? It's gonna be tough, but anything worth doing usually is!! Good luck and happy hunting.

If you look closely, you can see his tongue in his cheek...

He's quoting from the movie "Animal House" ;-)

It looks like a nicely circulated Walker. If the price is right, go for it!

I hope to be in the ballpark of greysheet. But these are not necessarily easy to find.

From what I can see, there are only a few that have been listed or sold on ebay. And there have been some sales on heritage. The prices tend to be about -10 to +20 vs the $210 sheet price. I would think the seller will be asking a bit over sheet in order to make some money (or at least break even).

It was I think, an off quote from the movie Animal House. John Belushi gave a short pep talk.... "was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?" Another actor in the scene said "Germans?" LOL
