I see slight Blakesely Effect on Reverse. Clipped is my call. BTW.. A clipped Blank Planchet is not clipped. It was punched out near where another Blank was previously cut out The black circles represent blanks that were punched after the previously blanks were punched out. It represents single clips, double clips, straight edge clips, corner clips and ragged clips
Sure.. but not much of a very high premium. A simple clip like yours I have seen for like $2.00 - $5.00
No, no, no! It's against forum rules to advertise coins for sale on all forums except the B/S/T forums. Chris
I appreciate the help. But it's just as bad for you to quote the offense and make it visible twice instead of just once.
While you're here, paddy, I recall reading somewhere that the Blakesley Effect isn't always apparent on some clips, but I can't recall where I read it. Do you know anything about it? Chris
Great to see somebody post 3 identical pix and not one good clear one of the affect on the front side. Bless your heart! You almost did good without anyone having to ask for more information!
I'm on the fence about this and leaning towards fake (creative use of a grinder). The rim next to the clip does not have much of a taper and letters in UNITED on the rev are sharp, right up the clip. I would expect these to be flatter and less pronounced. Remember, when the die hits the planchet, metal flows up into the main designs and out towards the edges, filling the rest of the rim area left over from the upset mill (and the reeding for some coins) and the letters near the edges. Large voids from clips offer no constraint to metal flow and allow metal to spread outward, not up into the letters/rim. Also, if there is a Blakelsly effect, it’s pretty weak. Please keep in mind that I don’t actively collect errors and some of the posts saying its genuine are from people who have a lot more experience. @paddyman98, can you take another look and see if my concerns make sense?
