Was going through some pennies today was board found a 1993 wide am one of a kind here's some photos let me know what you think I need anyone's help I can get ready to get this slab going to the show I'm living in Clearwater I'll be at the show on Monday
I hate to burst your bubble, but this is a 1993 CAM with a worn die causing it to mimic a WAM. See how thin the 1st leg of the M is? You can also look at the A in States. In a WAM the A is more centered in between the T's. Yours is closer to the second T. This is another sign it is a CAM. You can also tell by looking at the initials (FG) on reverse, but I've seen enough to tell me yours is a CAM. Sorry...Keep hunting though.
You the only person on the internet it seems that can spot that other difference with the A. Thanks for telling bout that. Watched many wide am videos and non of them said look at the A
That's because the a has nothing to do with the m in the a in America the A and states is total irrelevant between the A&M and America if it's further away then it's a light am if it's almost touching it's a close am the F in the G line up exactly like they should close to the memorial in the G is almost looked like a c thank you
Here ya go. This is a photo of my 2000P WAM Rev and a 2000P CAM REV. You can clearly see the differences in the placement of the "A" in States and the "M" in America.
Read this carefully*** He is correct, that's why I didn't say he was wrong. Cause I didn't know. If you look, in the close Am (A in states, the right bottom serif of the A is closer to the right T, when you look at wide Am, A in States, both bottom serifs have equal amounts of spacing between both Ts in states. Wow dude this is something that everyone should know. I knew there had to be something else but couldn't ever see it. Kudos for Mont collector. Very much appreciate this information
so basically, if you have a 1999 d wide am, but the FG is covered with gunk and you can't make out how wide the AM is, your next best bet would be to look in States. Cooooooooool. And also have to look at that to make sure it's not deteriorating.
The correct description for explaining what this error is would be just a simple Close A. I think they should change the name from close Am to just close A
You have a valid point but in comparison 2000 p 1993 d there may be a difference. I take ur word but for but a second opinion will make me more comfortable thanks for ur help
I didn't think you were saying I was incorrect. I quoted you to Tag ya...Keep forgetting you can tag people on this forum. I've known about this for a while and have never found any decent photo's showing this difference...Most people just look at the "AM" and "FG" positions. My eyes have a hard time seeing difference in "FG" placement so I asked a friend (The one who gave me the WAM above) if there was another sign to look for. Like I said, I have never found any decent photos showing this difference, so I figured I'd make some really quick.
I really don't think a second option on that will make you happy. Especially given the condition of the coin. I wouldnt pay 7.00 even labeled a discovery coin, due to its condition.
To me, it looks like the A in States would be a lot easier to tell if it was wide Am or close. But when I look at the AM I have troubles telling sometimes especially if the patina is affected in that area.
