I believe it refers to 'old green holder', I think people believe that the coins in these older holders were more conservatively graded at that time and worth seeking out for possible upgrades.
If I'm not mistaken, OGH Popper is a rapper from the mid-eighties. :kewl: Really though, it's a older PCGS slab that is a likely upgrade. I think I'm gonna change my name to OGH Poppper.
I would not call them likely upgrades. They are often seen as grading more conservatively, but are certainly not automatic upgrads. Many of the undergraded coins out there have already been spotted up upgraded.
I'd change that many to most. The odds are high that if a coin is still in an old holder - it deserves to be.
GDJMSP is 100% correct in my opinion. The VAST majority of OGHs I see for sale are the overgraded ones that nobody would crack out because of the risk that it would regrade LOWER rather than HIGHER. For the most part, OGH is nothing but a gimick to lure in the novice who doesn't really know how to grade. Of course, there are exceptions to this rule...Mike
If I may offer my advice to the OP (Avi), please consider a) learning to grade, and b) not PAYING the difference unless you can TELL the difference. Almost without fail, the biggest mistakes you will make numismatically will be when you are inexperienced. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Post a few coins (preferably BEFORE you buy them) and ask for opinions. I know I found this very helpful when I was in your shoes. Good luck...Mike
