I held out 4 rolls for today. I can't have the car until after lunch.

Ain't that just the way of it?. Found the right date and mint mark. But the coin was so grody that it wouldn't clean up enough to go in a flip. That was the first of 4 rolls.
Found some decent examples for my extras box.

Thought I would show everyone my proof roll finds. I have found all of these within in the least year in the wild, roll searching. They are not perfect by any stretch, but it was fun finding them in rolls. Almost as fun as finding silvers. I'm only missing 1997, 2011,2012, 2013 and 2017s. Just stuck them in a Harris folder for now. The 72s was alluding me and I thought I would never catch one, but there it was in my first box this week.

    86 through 98s, missing a 97

Through the rest of the 4 rolls and 5 new out of 20.
Lots of 77D but of course I need P.
Finally have 2. Going to soap, water and toothbrush them and maybe 1 will be ok. More decent examples for my extras box.
A 59D need that MAY clean up decently.

The 59D is a place holder and nothing more.
My 77P cleaned up better than the other two.
Gotta take my Dad to the VA and other places tomorrow.
    So 15 rolls to go.

I think I finally found a good local source of MWR halves! I placed an order 2 weeks ago with a local bank chain and the coins finally arrived today.

$200 in halves yielded 6, 90's (1 was a Franklin ender with full bell lines, while the other 90's were JFKs) and 1, 40%er...I'm thrilled!

I placed another order today

I think it must be said that very few of my keeps have any blemishes or hard hits. I do actually clean clad coins but pennies don't look good cleaned that way. Making pennies the toughest of the coins to find. I did two more rolls last night.

Obviously you are enjoying the search. Back in the 60s and 70s when I was a kid, so did I.

If nobody has impressed upon you yet that USA coin collectors don't clean their non-silver coins... when you try to sell your collection to somebody else (who isn't uninformed)... you won't be able to sell it for above face value, probably even if you wait another 20 years.

Here's how I predict - bicentennial coins from 1976 were hoarded. You can take an UNC bicentennial quarter down to a coin dealer and he will look at you cross-eyed if you expect to receive more than face value for it. 1976 is 41 years ago. In 1976 you could buy 3 1/2 Hershey bars from an average candy store. In 2017 you need 4 or more of those quarters to buy a Hershey bar from a candy store. That 1976 quarter would have to be worth more than 3 dollars just to buy the same stuff as it did in 1976.

Buying plastic 'flips' to store the coins, as you have said before in other posts, is wasted money to store current non-silver coins which aren't UNCs taken from UNC rolls.

You will have a collection. You will have enjoyed collecting. But you won't make an 'inflation adjusted' profit from it. I will conclude with this: collecting coins and losing money is no different than spending money on alcohol and enjoying the buzz... although collecting coins won't make you fat or sick as the alcohol might.

Keep collecting. Once the weather cools down in the fall, I'll probably start buying more nickels to search. It keeps me busy.

But... I had to learn the hard way. You will too.

Oh, and I have over $700 worth of nickels in my house. Probably will dump more than $600 of them. One CU last week refused to sell me nickels for free. I went to another branch of that same CU earlier that day and they sold me some nickels... so I know that one CU branch is managed by somebody who wants to discourage CRH'ing.

Sure. I get it. But the coin has to be in pretty fine shape before i even think about keeping it. Going to go volunteer at the food truck this morning. will trade in $8 in pennies when that is over.

    3 boxes of halves.
    1 and 3 were skunks but 2 yielded 13 40%ers and 1 90%er.

I hope you keep that shiny 66 for the collection. Got some real nice luster to it!

    So far today a better 42D, 59D and a few assorted 80s.
Went and traded $6 at the normal bank. Still working the $4 left overs. First two of those not so great.
    Chipping away at it.

12 rolls of pennies to get me through the day.
Essentially I need a few zinc updates and a fair amount of wheat.
