Oh, it's on Ebay? I didn't look. It's not easy to offer an objective opinion on a coin when you already know a TPG's opinion. Easier for me, who considers a TPG's opinion similar to that of a broken clock and about as valuable, but the presence of any previous opinion at all subconsciously affects your own. Anybody here know of another member whose opinion you really trust on a certain issue, and find yourself trying to fit your own opinion into alignment with their judgement? Yeah, me, too.
I have seen this one on ebay before, so I'll not add a grade. I will say that it has sold at least once already and is now listed at a bit more than twice the original selling price.
Anybody who knows their stuff knows that CAC would never, ever, in a million years sticker something this clearly dipped.
I don't know that the label has the word "details" on it, but I agree that the 4PG would not put a sticker on it.
to me, it looks VF 30, by the detail in the brow hair curl and the gown edge at the bust. Looks DTD (dipped to death) and then nicely ring toned in an old sulfurous album. I'm guessing it straight graded, probably with a *, and will draw a premium price.
Sorry, but it is getting irritating, I think you want to say definitely meaning assuredly or really and instead you keep saying defiantly which sounds like you want to fight...........never mind.
I've seen it happen. Proof: https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=260369&SearchTerms=Cac,dipped
I like that coin better for originality. Instead of being nearly blast white, it's sort of a dirty yellow. Although in general I agree that CAC has beaned some inexplicable coins before.
And the answer: VF-20 (no details... okay...) STAR (uhh ) and can be yours for the meager price of $1250 ! NGC gave a straight grade to an "improperly cleaned" coin. No biggie. Happens all the time between PCGS and NGC (ANACS is actually a bit better about designating cleaned coins as cleaned). But giving it a STAR designation? That's a little much and is the reason for discussion here. So... what price begins buying the slab instead of the coin?
NGC hardly ever grants a star to bust halves, so the holder is "rare." I saw a few from this collection that had stars. They look like cleaned coins that were placed in a Wayte Raymond album for a few decades. Everyone knows they're cleaned at some point, but the rainbows are nice and the holders are scarce, thus the high prices.
If the star represents extreme eye appeal than clearly this proves eye appeal can exist while in the presence of a cleaning. Especially that second out of focus picture. I surely can't see the cleaning and the eye appeal is there. Edit - the second picture is to highlight the slab.
