http://www.ebay.com/itm/Julius-Caes...354714?hash=item5449db319a:g:hFAAAOSwcj5ZPp5S Here is a full disclosure from the seller: ) NGC calls the Elephant side the obverse but I've heard arguments for this both ways from ancient experts. I've also have owned a few of these and the last one I owned raw was from HA.Com and this was back in 2003 or so and it was a twin to this coin and back then I bought it in an Ancient lot about the time Heritage first started selling ancients and a long time before they started selling baseball cards and comic books. Back to the coin at hand; I've had three local dealers look at this coin because a buyer sent me a picture of a similar coin and told me It was a forgery. Well, None of the three local dealers refused to write me a letter to get my money back due to He (A Brick Building coin Store Owner + Member of ANA ++++) and the other two numismatists all conferred it was genuine but suggested I send it in to ANACS (cheaper) to make sure. However before I do this I'm going to give someone a chance to make the big money. I'm Auctioning it off and will give the winner time to have it graded as for a refund if it proves not to be genuine. In other words The return period for this coin will be six weeks (49 Days). I can't show this in the return section as eBay doesn't allow for it but I can in the description. In other words your money will stay with PayPal until your coin is slabbed + I have checked with NGC and ANACS and both said 6 weeks is plenty of time for their normal service. I will also give you the same amount of time to decide ( change of mind ect.) if buy it now price is met weather sent in or not. The 14 day return is for any reason...change of mind...lack of money...anything just simply use eBay's easy return process. If you buy it now For the $995.00 price I will give six weeks weather or NOT You Have It Graded! Trust me I don't need the money bad enough to rip anyone off (also against my FAITH) and am so confident I'm doing this to sweeten an offer on a super nice ancient at market price. Prices for non member grading of Ancients as follows: ANACS $29.00 + $24.00....The 29 is for 30 day grading (economy) $24.00 is for return shipping. NGC (Non-Member) 39.00 To Join + $40.00 40 Day Standard grading + $5.00 return S&H. Just go to either ones web site to prove me right
agreed, but I don't understand whats the point? with PayPal you can return the item within 6 months, thats first of all. Second, the guy has 100% positive review on >1.6K feedbacks.. what interesting is private bidding option- Classic in my opinion
Better to not buy it in the first place if you know it's a forgery (which it is) Doesn't mean much. You'll find examples of this particular fake in Forvm's Fakes gallery. It's a Lipanoff. Bottom image from: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/displayimage.php?album=search&cat=0&pos=62 "This is a most convincing Lipanoff 18-15 forgery, many examples of which (though with variable weathering and damage simulation) have found their way onto the market starting in the early 90s. It was first published in the “International Bureau for the Suppression of Counterfeit Coins [IBSCC] Bulletin on Counterfeits [BOCS]†Vol (18) No. 1, 1993: Page 11, Figure 5a. "
Wow, TIF this is eye opening to me....it looked fake, i just wanted everyone to see this..and still puzzled as to why reputable dealer would sell fakes..
Aside from the obvious casting seam you can see in the photo, well... Why? Likely they have no idea. They may not mean to deceive, but from the description I think they are fully aware.
i agree with TIF, and you'll be out of the money(not to mention time and effort) of having it certified. it's the old "too good to be true" deal
I reported this item several times and assumed that it would be taken down before the sale closed but I just checked back in... Some poor fella just lost $425 and eBay did nothing about it. That's such a shame
