This one is another details coin for my type set. As @jtlee321 mentioned, the surfaces have that glossy look of a cleaned coin and at certain angles one can see evidence of areas that have been lightly wiped. Like the trade dollar from my previous thread, the details are strong and the design stands out. I could have opted for a VG or Fine problem free coin (maybe?) but for the same price (or even slightly less...I saw a PCGS VG details sell for only $15 less) I would rather have a coin where I can clearly see all the features.
So did this PCGS VG details sell for too much at $247.50 + $5 Shipping? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1872-1-Seat...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 When I was searching previous sales I saw some fairly worn examples going in the 180-220 range. The only higher detailed ones were holed, plugged, or whizzed.
Yes the vg details one sold for way too much, but people sometimes buy these to crack them out, because problem free examples are quite rare. You asked what a fair price would be for a cleaned xf.... My answer is $220. I've sold cleaned and or scratched raw xf ones for $225-$300 range as recently as last year. They just don't consistently sell for as much as they did a few years ago.
That's fair and I agree that the vg sold for too much. I paid about 265 for mine. That may be a little high, but still seems to fit in with the recent sales results. It should look nice in my Type Set album. Thank you for the info!
Thank you! For now I plan on it resting in my Type Set album. I might try to grade it at Anacs at some point if they continue to run the $10 per coin specials.
