Information on either of these coins would be appreciated. The dime is a 2017 D that I came across in what I thought was an uncirculated roll but it doesn't seem possible to have such extreme toning without it being artificial.
Can you show whole coin shots of both with the camera parallel to the coin? I have seen some clad coins with toning. I have one somewhere. I'm not sure if mine's AT, but I like it. Regarding your cent, it might be a partial collar strike, could be damage, could be a few things. Seeing the whole coin obverse and reverse will help. The obverse has a clear sign of misaligned die strike (which is why you see two rims there).
Of course, it may be a bit difficult to see the toning of the dime because of bad lighting but I'll do my best to show all the different colors it possesses.
The Cent is amazing.. The Obverse looks to be a Misaligned Die Strike The Reverse seems to shows a Partial Colllar Strike
My thoughts exactly, I just wanted to see the whole coin before stating that. This one is a keeper. Toned dime is just a nice toned dime. I don't see anything unusual about it.
You guys are seriously awesome, I thank both of you for your input. I have just two more question if you don't mind me taking up more of your time lol Would it be better to send it in for grading before trying to sell it and how much do you think it's worth? I have my eyes on a Morgan and if this Lincoln cent can get that chunk of silver in my hand I'd be estatic
Misaligned Die Strikes don't really demand any premium. Partial Collar Strikes maybe a small premium but not enough to purchase a Morgan.. maybe about $2.00 - $3.00
Then it'll be going in a protective holder like you said lol Thank you again for sharing your knowledge, I'll be sure to pass it on
You'd be a clown to sell the cent for a couple bucks, especially without verifying that it isn't also one of several possible doubled dies for 1963D. Your pix, and likely your inspections up to this point, are of no use for making any such determination other than a few key points on it look very possible.
