The photo is definitely obverse 3 of 96. No other Liberty Cap has the 7 positioned so far left. ps I use Sheldon nomenclature rather than Breen. This would be Breen Obverse 4.
Yes. That is my correspondence. It was intended to be photos of the S-76b, but the first two photos were of a 1796 and I arranged to purchase the 96. The reverse of the 95 was better than this reverse. So I hold out hope, but not the expectation, that it a new find. Thus the lottery ticket approach. No one in their right mind expects to win, but you play in hope that you beat the odds.
Bidding on another one, but no sniping tonight. Thunderstorms threaten to take me down at any time and I don't want to lose to a power outage.
Another new addition. I haven't seen a lot of these elsewhere. Seven have sold on Heritage and three in the Holmes sale, but at least one was on both. Many times I see PNG with one or more, but not this time. This was purchased for about a third of a Fr2 on Heritage which was barely identifiable and which I would call B-1. I think this is a borderline Fr2/AG3 and I'm sure it would probably come back either AG3 or G4 details/genuine from a third party grader with Environmental Issues since it has complete, though weak, lettering and some hair detail. A VG8 on Heritage was $1400. I'm hoping the obverse green near the date is residue of rosin and not verdigris, but it is what it is.
That's what I came up with and it was described as such. But I had to see if it could be a perfect die pre die state I S-197 first. The reverse is not the S-197 and nothing would preclude the S-210. At first, the reverse looked like the middle 0 of the denominator might be too far right for the S-210, but the second reverse photo looked like it is more centrally located. The berry at O(NE) looks like the correct match for the S-210. My question now is Die State I, II or III. I can't see the clash marks so I'm thinking Die State I.
Now, of course, I have just found it's pairing. It just seems to be the way I find them. I picked it up tonight.
So your the one who keeps me from the bargains. LOL! I'm getting the coins, but not at bargain prices. Good luck. I'm going to have to take a break from my spending pace.
You could PM me if you run out of cash and spot a new variety. LOL Always buying early large cents, just bought a 1794 and three draped busts tonight.
Seller says obverse 32, not S-32. I do not feel like attributing it right now. 1794 cents are the worst.
I looked at it and cannot see anything but a S-65. The seller was right in saying it wasn't a S-64 or 1794 NC-7, the uncommon pairings while failing to mention the S-65. It even has the T closer to the A with a slightly high and clockwise rotated A like the S-65. I can't see a new variety myself. But I did write and ask him why he didn't think it was the S-65 reverse.
I'd take the 94s over the 1800s every day of the week. There's lots of attributable features in the portrait itself with hair detail added to each individual die.
I like the 1800 LC but I'm particularly interested in the 1794's. The 1800's that I have are still mostly unattributed due to my inexperience.
If you post them. I'd be happy to help where possible. Unfortunately, the 1800s become unattributable quite easily with wear and/or damage, particularly those in early die states.
