Can someone explain live bidding vs. bidding through the dealer's website?

Ken Dorney Yea, I'm Cool That Way...

I am sure its happened to all of us. Honestly, we cant watch all the auctions! But it really is pretty cool to see that while I didn't get that coin, so and so did see the same coin and loved it as much as I did. We all know that in many (not most, not all, but in some) cases another collector saw exactly the same things we did in that coin, and we know it went to a good home.

Yes. Living in London gives me the chance to view some auctions in person, and it's interesting that e-bidders are more perceptive than me about how things will look 'in hand'. There have been a few times when I've not been attracted by picture, but loved a coin in real life ... only to find that it's already been bid to three times estimate!

By way of update it looks like my bids went through. When I logged into the live e-auction it showed my credit limit as approved (despite no response to my emails). I watched the live e-auction unfold and I seem to have won the ones I specifically signed up to bid for. It still shows the lots I won when I login into the bidding platform. But no confirmation in email or when I log into the customer area on the dealer's website. Has anyone had experience bidding in their auctions - can it take a couple days to get emailed the invoice / notification of auction outcome?

Yay! Glad it worked out for you.

Yes, some auction houses take days (or a week, but rarely) to get an invoice/notification. I don't recall how long it took Rauch to send an invoice the one time I bid with them.

The one time I bid in a Rauch auction (about 3 years ago), it took 6 days for them to issue me an invoice, and only after I emailed them to ask for it.

Looking at my correspondence with them now, I also see that they billed me EUR 70 to ship via Fedex four coins that totalled EUR 277. After asking for an alternative shipping method, this was reduced to EUR 35. Now I remember why I never looked at Rauch auctions again. I'm hoping for you that they've since improved on service and reduced their shipping rates!
