Not-so-common example of a very common type

While I'm more of a Valentinian I-and-later kind of guy, I still really enjoy the late bronzes from earlier in the 4th century, and needing more nicely-detailed LRBs in my collection, I had to pick this one up (an older purchase from some months back btw). Even though Fallen Horsemans are basically a-dime-a-dozen, they are less common in this kind of shape or better. Love how this one still has some of its silvering. And many collectors disregard the usual pearl-diademed generic-looking LRB bust, but when executed right, it can look very commanding and regal as on my example. Constantius II is a common enough emperor and I'm not feeling up to posting a lengthy history right now, so I'll link to some articles on him and post the obligatory map.

VK, that is a fabulous Fallen Horseman! One of these days I want one or two. I'm counting on Randy to keep me abreast of candidates. One of these days he'll stop buying all of them :D.

And Randy, your "boring" two soldiers is very well struck and well preserved... nice coin!

I've got around 80 fallen horseman coins, somehow they just seem to turn up in the hoards over and over again. Must have struck millions of them back in the day!

    Thanks :)

I found it at the local show. At the time I had a few and wasn't too excited about the type. I never really gave it a good look and passed it over many times over several months lol. I'm glad I finally took a look at it, and that no one else did.
