I've been offered by tellers that assist in my hunting modern dollar coins more recently. Besides the SBA wide rim, are there any others to search for? Is anyone going through dollar rolls and having any success with it? Thanks in advance and HH! Edited to add Sacagewia and Presidential dollars to the pool of searching.
Ask for Ikes. There is a 1972 Philly Type II that is worth some dough in a decent grade. Research it to find out what the type II looks like. Getting a decent grade from a bank can be tough though.
The only two Ikes I've gotten recently were from a tollbooth on 95 DE (I'm that guy that asks for "weird change in the till" and hold the line up). There are two guys that beat me to the branch up north that I go to and swipe all the halves and Ikes. But today I won the tellers over with chocolate "they are so rude and just come in asking and leave. We'll save them for you." One even gave me a beat up 57B SS $1 that I gladly exchanged for. The branches near me never have Ikes but I'm going to look that type 2 up so I know what to look for when I'm back up north dumping and collecting.
Look for missing edge lettering on the Presidential dollars. The 2000-P Sacagawea dollars have three varieties. For the Sac dollars the varieties are listed in the Redbook.
I heard of that and just looked it up. That would be a nice find! https://www.thespruce.com/cheerios-dollar-profile-768545
Yes, they were the only Sacs put in the Cheerios. I believe I read somewhere that they did 10,000 boxes. I traded them for bust 1/2 cents and bust large cents soon after getting them. At the time, I was not into the small golden dollars.
The article read that there were 10mil boxes with sacs but 5500 of them were from a detailed die that was retooled after those to add to the durability of the die. I'm sure most are sitting in someone's coin box or junk drawer unknowing to the fact those are worth $5k-25k a piece. Reading that alone led me to going back to the bank to get all the dollar coins they had haha. Edit- cuz hey, ya neva know.
I know what the value is now. I probably got 40 cents in face for the 2 dollars in face at the time. At the time it was a good deal for me. Looking back it was a very bad deal for me.
So these seem to be the most popular I'm finding... 2000 P "Cheerios Dollar" 5500 minted 60-70 known 2000 P "Wounded Eagle" unknown There is also the 2007 P that some had the edge lettering accidentally stamped into it, originally intended for the Presidential Dollars, Sacagawea Dollars didn't get this until 2009.
