I just googled a search on a coin I want to have and found one for sale on Etsy. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger today but I wanted to find out what kind of experiences (if any) folks on the forum have had from that outlet before I buy it. Has anybody bought something off that site?
I have never purchased coins from Etsy; but, I have purchased lots of other things, especially vintage fabrics and sewing notions from that site. I never had an issue with a transaction. You can have good communication before purchasing if you like.
Thanks for the feedback. I just pulled the trigger - follis of Severus II at a pretty good price. Now I just need Maxentius to round out the portrait series of the tetrarchy.
Thanks @LaCointessa! Condition is quite nice! The dude was only Caesar for 8 months before becoming an Augustus, and then was only an emperor for about 10 months before being defeated by Maxentius (and executed, unfortunately). The follis is from the period when he was Caesar.
I just went there, and almost everything I saw were fakes, (whether admitted or not). Just makes me nervous to buy from a place with so many fakes being sold.
Thanks. Looks authentic. The primary business of the merchant is selling ancient bronzes mounted in bezels (hence jewelry) but they also have some coins. They had 6 photos of the coin on the site. If it's fake I'll be sure to get my money back!
Sorry, I was not assuming the piece you bought was fake. Just mentioning it for newer collectors to be wary. I am sure there might be some honest sellers there, it just makes me nervous to spend my time there with so many fakes floating around. In just a few minutes I found lots of admitted fakes, and a couple of NOT admitted fakes I could tell were false.
