I want a Maxentius with the architecture on the reverse, plus Severus II. Trying to fill out the tetrarchy.
I would really like to find a nice early Republican cast piece with either a stamp or signs that it was broken off from a larger ingot or other piece (because I can't afford the whole thing). Otherwise I'm just hunting for any RR types I don't have that that I can get at a price I like.
btw, you avatar, coin I always wanted to have: half a Kilo or Kilo silver from , I believe Burkina Faso you have one?
I'm with @TIF on this one. I will keep my list to myself. I do not need the competition. Anyone who has been following my posts already has a good idea of what coins I am likely to go after.
No wish list here, at least about ancient. I follow my nose and opportunities. As for the Dombes coinage I'm tracking a rare Anne Marie Louise de Bourbon half ecu minted in 1669, to pursue my quest of putting together a set of them, which is a real challenge : 1673 is quite common and easy to get (every serious Dombes collector has one to display). 1665 is unique to date, 1669 less than ten I think, 1672 less than five or six, 1674 two or three. No other date is known to exist at the moment : Wait and see !! Q
I'm a planner. If I don't have a focus, i'll lust after too many things and spend too much money. I limit my scope to the portrait series. This project has held my interest for quite a few years, i see no need to change.
I not long ago in a quick conversation with I think TIF said my want list was almost as long as my grocery list. But I'm in with Mikey Zee I get what I find that's around my budget at the time. I like to much of everything and that's a problem for me. I'm currently working on an Empress sub so maybe there. Also on the hunt for a certain Trajan within budget of course. Other than that I play my cards as I get them.
Well, speaking of buying things you didn't know you collected, and speaking of Maxentius and his temple coins, I picked up this somewhat mis-matched pair on eBay a while back. I was going for the Roman Republic denarius of Cn. Baebius Tamphilus - I am always on the hunt for RR - and got the Maxentius as part of the deal. In hand, to my surprise, I liked the Max about as much as the RR. I paid $45 for the pair (a "best offer" deal), which struck me as a tad high, but at least on eBay, Maxentius material doesn't come up much so I guess it worked out okay.
