Latest Tet is a Numerian. Got it for a good price due to deposits and whatnot. Could be cleaned but I am leaving it. Numerian (283 - 284 A.D.) Potin Tetradrachm Egypt, Alexandria O: A K M A NOVMEPIANOC CEB, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, from behind. R: Athena seated left on high backed throne, wearing crested helmet, Nike in right, shield leaning against throne, L - B* across fields ,Year 2, 283 - 284 A.D. Alexandria Mint 9.28g 19mm Milne 4719; Curtis 1939; Dattari 5608 Emmett 4013
I was recently taking stock of my "military recovery" period coinage, I need to get one of Numerian's dad still, but I have a nice ant of him...
Nice coin. I have a Carinus antoninianus but no Numerian. It would be cool though to acquire the entire series of tets from Alexandria from Augustus (if he issued them) through Diocletian.
Man, mat, you've really come around to these Roman-Egypt tets and have been scoring some nice ones lately.
NUMERIAN AE Tetradrachm OBVERSE: A K M AN NOVMEPIANOC K C, laureate, draped & cuirassed bust right REVERSE: LA (year 1) above eagle standing facing between two vexilla, head right with wreath in its beak Struck at Alexandria, Egypt, 283 AD 9.3g, 20mm Milne 4674 NUMERIAN Tetradrahm OBVERSE: A K M A NOVMEPIANOC CEB, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right REVERSE: Athena seated left, holding Nike and sceptre; shield below chair, L-B (date) across field (Year 2) Struck at Alexandria, Egypt, 283/4 AD 19mm; 6.74g Köln 3192-3193; Dattari 5607, Emmett 4013; Sear 12272
Like so many sets of Ancients, there are a few here that are likely to foil your attempts. As long as you enjoy the journey and don't be fixated on the completion, it will be fine.
Nice coins, everyone. My ant. has a thick patina. Numerian (283 - 284 A.D.) Æ Antoninianus O: IMP NVMERIANVS AVG, radiate, draped bust right. R: VNDIQVE VICTORES, Numerian standing left, holding globe and sceptre, captive on each side. Rome mint 22mm 4.07g RIC 423, Cohen 120 An important reverse type fallaciously claiming 'victories on Every Side'.
Very nice guys!! Cool TETS!!!! It seem I have one unphotographed Ant that was the best of all those I bought over the early years from 'uncleaned lots' (the first type @gogili1977 posted)....and about VF+---which made me think I could score most of them like that. NOT!! LOL
