I see that the tail of the "top" 9 is clearly tapered as it sits on the tail of the "bottom" 9. I don't see how PMD is a player due to this tapered "top" tail. The other numbers look different than machine doubling as well. Ideas?

It looks like die deterioration to me.

So almost like a die crack on the tail of the 9?

Being as you ask if this could be a repunched date, you may want to ask yourself if such a thing was even possible on a cent of this date (or Lincoln cents in general - hint, hint).

So what about the 1960 d small over large date?

What about it? Is it a "repunched date" or something else?

Your previous statement sounds like you are saying that repunched dates on cents just don't happen.

They don't. The date is always on the hub. It's part of the die.

You couldn't just explain that in your first post?? Feel free to not respond to anymore of my questions/posts.

No! That is probably due to a hit which smashed the tip of the "9". It's PMD.

@BooksB4Coins is trying to get you to think for yourself and seek out the answers that are readily available on numerous sites. Having a thin skin won't get you anywhere.

That was my first post. I put it here to help you understand. I did my best. I can't make you appreciate my help, but just because you didn't immediately get the answer you were seeking is not a reason to be angry with me. Or anyone, really.
