My problem is in finding an auctioneer.

I would prefer having one auction for all of the exonumia but, except for the big guys, most auctioneer's buyers focus on only some categories of exonumia.

Would anyone like to recommend some auctioneers to me?

    Thanks much,

    David

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

What do you have? "Exonumia" is an incredibly broad category, and could cover just about anything tangentially related to coins.

As you say, different sellers may do better with different types of material.

When it comes to auctions and exonimia I can only think of one name off the top of my head - Steve Hayden. Check him out, see if he deals in what you have, and maybe reach out to him and go from there. I have never done business with him because I can't seem to win any of his auctions.

This. I have bought and sold from/to Steve. He is a class act, and is well known in the business. I am nearly to the point that I don't buy coins less than R-7+ from him on eBay because so many bidders place a premium on coins he sells, just because they are from him (sometimes as much as 100%). I sold him a fairly significant collection of communion tokens and his price was quite fair, although we did negotiate a bit. He deals primarily in Civil War, Hard Times, and Good For, but he has represented just about everything.

Rich Hartzog used to run regular exonumia sales, but I haven't seen much out of him here lately. There are several other collector/brokers (myself included) who could probably handle a consignment, but if you're looking to sell outright, talk to a full time dealer.

I thought Hartzog was mostly books? I bought both editions of Cunningham from him...

It's been some time since he had an auction - the last one listed on his website was 2006. I'm not sure how "into the game" he still is, but his name would probably draw some attention.

Yes. Heh. Pretty much of everything.

US and world medals from rare to common including all the expos from Colombian to NY. About 150 pieces

Medallions, merchants tokens and good fors .

    Counter-stamped both us and world.

    So-called-dollars.

Political and campaign tokens from Harrison through McKinley.

A few fractional gold and even an encased postage with full mica.

A small amount of US and world military decorations and awards.

A large collection of Gem Uncirculated Masonic Marks in several metals from the estate of Virgil Brand.

Several hundred Gold Rush tokens of Australia and New Zealand, some of which are higher grade and/or scarce issues.

I haven't begun and inventory of the Hard Times Tokens (Maybe 40) or Civil War Tokens (several hndred including dups and BU common patriotos.

there are boxes and boxes of the real common material and I am certain to turn up some odds and ends like Bryan items and stuff I can't identify.

I have been talking with Russ Rulau and Mr. Levine of Presidential Coin and Antique along with Dave Bowers.

The big guys won't do well with the more common stuff but may work out with the more expensive.

I suppose I must give up my fantasy of it being easy and simple by just letting one firm handle all of it.

Seems the story of my life.

Heritage is having a token and medal sale featuring a large collection from Virgil Brand's estate this fall. I know you don't want to break up lots, but it might make sense to get in on that - there will already be people looking for his pedigree.

    Thanks for that.

I get daily texts from my guy there on consignment deadlines for various auctions. So many that I haven't been paying as much attention as I should.
