ok I found this weird... never seen it on a dollar coin. I am wondering how it happedened. It's got 3 lines that are raised. The lines do not connect if you drawl a line from one line to the edge, to the other edge. 2007 sanfran. Looks like it even used to be cameo proof coin but heavy circulation. I'm sure if it's an error, it's not a big one. Just wondering if this is a known issue and what it might be. Thanks for looking. Not sure if this has any significance, (picture below) but if you look between the layer of copper clad there is what looks like the layer almost separated or cracked or something.
The raised bits on the side could potentially be cud (extra metal that flows over the original coin) but as I am not aware if it is there normally I could not say for sure. If it is cud it probably would not raise the value too much (maybe 5 or 10 cents if you are lucky) because the presidential dollars do not bring much demand.. Honestly based on the spacing on the side it looks to most likely be the normal design of the coin. The crack on the side looks like PMD to me (no added value) I'm not much of an expert on dollar coins so another opinion might help- just adding my thoughts.

Your coin is a mishandled (circulated) proof coin. The lettered edge was put on the proofs at the same time the coins were struck through the use of a three segment collar. (For business strikes they were applied in a separate step after striking) The lines on the edge are where the metal was forced into the joints between the segments.

Thanks! i knew it was a proof coin cause i can see the frosting on the devices and the letter S, just didnt know if that was supposed to be on the edge Thats cool! second proof coin i found in circulation. my 1977 cameo proof coin i found is muuuuch nicer for circulation.
