Here are some new pickups for my Hungarian type set. Some may consider these exonumia, as they are special war issues struck for use in the Kenyérmezö POW Camp during WWI.

The Kenyérmezö POW Camp (1914-1918) was the largest POW camp operated in Hungary during WWI. The camp housed Russian, Italian, and Serbian prisoners of war. It was not uncommon for POW camps to issue their own paper currency during WWI in order to control commerce. This is the only camp, however, that was large enough where it was practical to issue coinage, as by some estimates, the camp housed between 100,000 and 250,000 prisoners.

A series of coins was struck in 1915 that consisted of 1, 2, 10, 20, and 50 fillér denominations. The coins used both Hungarian (obverse) and German (reverse) legends, with the name of the camp in Hungarian on both faces.

I went to a local show last weekend and picked up this rupee from Hyderabad. I read the year as 1324, which I think translates to 1906. It doesn't have a high catalog value but I've never seen one. hyderabad rupee.jpg

Classic coin. The type that always popped up on the covers of those coin books back when I was a pup.

Here's a new pickup for my korona date set.

    Hungary 1 Korona 1913KB (KM-492)
    AR 0.835, 5g, 23mm x 1.5mm

    1913.jpg

This is the big key date for the KM-492 type with a reported mintage of only 5,214.

This leaves me with only one remaining hole in my date set for this denomination, as I already have a pair of gem examples of the 1892KB key (mintage of 15,000). The only remaining key date is the 1906KB which, despite the highest mintage of the three at 23,505, appears to be the scarcest by a large margin.

These two turtle coins arrived yesterday. 2001 Turkey 10 million lira and 2010 Belarus 20 rubles. Both are silver. 2001 turkey 10 million lira.jpg 2010 belarus 20 rubles.jpg

I pulled these two out of the five-for-a-dollar bin at the LCS a couple weeks back. The 1/2 gulden has a weird texture, it's almost like it's been in an acid bath or something. Of course, for well under melt value, I wasn't going to complain too much.

New Korean coin. Very nice looking. My first from Korea. Not cheap for a new modern, ($30) but really like the look. 1 more for my modern world silver collection.
