Does anyone see any value in this? http://www.merrickmint.com/black-ru...k-gold-clad-with-deluxe-felt-display-box.html
Too bad the creative geniuses at the mint couldn't come up with something that looked this cool. For the coins celebrating 50 years since landing on the moon. this would also be a great concept! @dcarr maybe you could submit something in this vain for the art competition??? Black anodized with silver moon, that would be neat. https://www.space.com/36677-apollo-11-50th-anniversary-coin-design.html I doubt it would be allowed but it would be neat to see.
Yes, the black and gold contrast is very pleasing and they actually have a very nice look. Some people won't like them, others will. Post mint damage or not, it's got a cool look
@davidh ... by the way, your title reads Black Eagle. I looked at the coin carefully and I don't see a black eagle.. I see a Gold Eagle
I've heard from people who have bought these that they are not as black as the pictures illustrate. Closer to a dark grey.
I very much like the look, and if the Mint offered it without a premium as drastic as Merrick's, I might actually buy one. If I didn't get crowded out by the dealer sales, that is.
I would be all over those as well if the mint started making some like that. There's a lot of unexplored potential there the mint has been missing out on
