I'll start with saying that I'm not very good with rpm and omm but I was just searching some pocket change and found this. It's a Zincoln and I see zinc rot starting around the MM but i've never seen zinc rot that is raised and looks like a D but horizontal. I have heard of horizontal MM on Lincolns but dont see anything listed for this year that looks similar so I thought i'd ask before I throw it in spend bucket. Thanks in advance. 19851.jpg 19852.jpg 19853.jpg 19854.jpg 19855.jpg 19856.jpg

Is there a possibility of a rpm that has zinc rot because of the mm hit on the original mm and left the mm zinc exposed...just a question.

Here are 2 more things to think about eric
Mint marks I believe were not hand punched into Cent Dies in 1985
D over horizontal D occurred in older cents such a wheaties

Look at it carfully... that raised metal only looks like a D on it's side but it is not.
It looks smaller than the normal D mint mark ;)

Mint marks were hand punched on cent dies through 1989. However this is zinc rot as stated above. A small hole in the copper plating allows moisture in and the zinc reacts. It can easily push the copper plating up which would give the impression of it being raised. Also, D over horizontal D RPMs were not solely on wheat cents. There is one in 1961. It's a Cherrypicker's Guide variety.

If you can afford the overhead, I'd keep it.
