Please have a look at this auction... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150154779237 I bought this roll, with the understanding that this was an unopened roll of 1962-d cents. I received the roll today and it has very much been opened. I sent an email to the seller about the problem, but I just wanted to check with others whether or not you think that this auction is actually for an unopened roll or not before I decide what type of feedback to leave. Thanks, David
Lets see some pictures of the ENDS of the roll which the seller convienently left out. Should be nicely tightly rolled .. m
He does everything except say that the roll is unopened. I would sure read it that way, but when you look closely, those are not his words. With you current feedback, I would suggest you drop it.
I'm not thinking about causing a scene or anything, I'm just wondering what other people think. I'm not sure what my feedback has to do with anything? I have not had any negative feedback for over 5 years, which is longer than many people have been on ebay. Or are you saying that I should not take the risk of getting negative feedback from this seller if I say something... If that is the case then what is the point of the feedback system? What options do I have to address this problem? I kept my end of the deal. I paid for the auction within an hour of the auction ending, what else am I to do. I do realize that the wording of the auction is up to interpretation, I'm just trying to figure out what most people would think before I do anything.
Yeah...while he doesn't say that it is unopened he does everything BUT. I would see if you could return it. Speedy
The left side in the pic does have wear as if its been opened and recrimped. Most are opened! See what the sellers anwser is to your email before doing anything. Leave the feedback you think the seller merits.
What I am saying is that there is enough interpretation there that in your shoes, I would let sleeping dogs lie. Particularly for $1.58. Incidentally, most people do not see 5 years, they will see 90.3%. If I saw that bid on my auctions, I would cancel your bid.
Even if he does return it, I would bet he does not get his shipping back. That is $5 and it would cost at least $1.58 to ship them back. He will be money ahead to keep them.
What everybody else said. Seller states it's an original roll, and that they are difficult to find unopened, but does not state that roll is unopened. Roll looks wrapped tight, but, then again, no pics of end. I would prob eat this one and learn a lesson... THERE ARE NO unsearched wheats , and few unopened, original rolls period.
Really? I guess I don't lok at the feedback % that much. Most of the time the ones I buy from I know I can trust so numbers don't matter. Speedy
I'd just eat it and chalk it up to experience. Who knows there may be some REAL nice coins in there. I have OBW Jeffersons from the 50s that just may have been opened at some point in the past. True OBW rolls are pretty scarce. What's the use of feedback? Well, it's not like it used to be that's for sure Too many sellers won't leave feedback until THEY have received feedback. I don't like that at all. I rarely sell anymore but I always leave positive feedback when the payment arrives in a timely manner. Course that's because I sell what I advertise. Now as a seller looking at bidder feedback I'm afraid you would raise flags in my camp. 92.3 does not impress me (no offense). I would dig back into the why in your case but a lot of people don't. Your being on ebay for five years would not affect my viewpoint that much other than making me wonder why your feedback rating was where it's at after 5 years. Like I said in the beginning I'd just eat this one and you may have some killer coins in there. For future reference might I suggest asking the seller questions BEFORE you bid? If I ask a legit question and get no response I just don't bid. On the other hand I have bought coins with HORRIBLE pictures at very reasonable costs because the seller answered ALL of my questions. Those coins turned out to be as advertised. Asking about return policies is always a good idea as well. If it's not clearly stated get it in an email. Makes it easier if there is a dispute. Fortunately I've never had that problem. Basically ebay sucks but it can be decent if you go about it in the right way.
While I agree that there are few, if any unopened wheat rolls, this is a memorial roll, and I have bought at least a dozen in the past month or so, some on ebay, some from dealers, and this is the first opened one I got. I have no intention of returning it, I'm checking with the seller to see if maybe he has one that is not opened and we can exchange, if not, it's my problem for reading too much into the auction. My real question is what to do about feedback. This does not merit negative feedback in my opinion. I'm not a big fan of neutral feedback, but does this really deserve positive feedback? I don't want to get on there and say, "Yeah! Great seller" yet I don't think that I should say anything bad... Is there something maybe neutral that would be acceptable? Or should I just skip the feedback entirely? ...and my feedback is 92.2%... not that it matters... Funny, I asked the seller a question before the auction, about the roll, but I did not ask if it had been unwrapped... Should I think about starting a new profile? From a sellers point of view, is 92.2% with a long history better than a 100% with only one or two auction under it's belt? David
After you give the negative or neutral, it will be 90.3%. There is nothing that says you have to give feedback. I would just leave it be. PERIOD
If I give negative or neutral feedback, my score goes down? What's up with that? Anyway, I talked to the seller, and after seeing what he has to say, I beleive that it was an honest mistake on his part. I have several rolls that I recieved from the same FRB branch as this one, for other years, and with causual inspection it does look sealed. You have to compare it to other rolls to see that the crimping has been undone and then just folded back into place. Anyway, I'm going to continue to talk to the seller and see what happens. David
"Original Federal Reserve wrapped roll of Lincoln cents. These are very hard to find that are still unopened" This is an 'implied' description which is 'intended' to deceive. I would have a problem with it and the seller.
No D that dude is trying to get over on you! Tell him you want A refund and if he give's you any lip...get paypal after him! I'm so sick of these dirtbags that sell this way! I'm not even dealing with ebay anymore because of the B.S. that goes on there!
Ebay is a valuable resource - you just have to be careful as you are dealing with people you do not know.
David, If the guy is talking to you that's always good. Since he has posted your feedback and you feel he's honest I wouldn't nail him with a neutral or a negative. No feedback or positive. As for your feedback I'm not knocking it just telling you what sellers look at. I DID check yours out and I WOULD sell to you without hesitation. I failed to mention that your feedback of less than 100 would have a lot to do with that. It's easier to check one's history when the numbers are lower. Get more positives under your belt and that number goes up substantially. NOW, if you had a feedback of 1000 with a 92.2 rating I would probably stay well away from you as a buyer and a seller. Everyone interprets the numbers in their own way and depends on how much time they want to spend. I have seen people with pretty low feedback and then checked the persons that left negatives. On many occasions I've found it was the other person. Lovely retaliatory feedback. The system is certainly not foolproof. Hope the whole deal turns at satisfactory for you! clembo
