    I found this listed on one of the eBay forums. Notice the date.

    A couple people said that they wrote eBay for the rule, but no one has posted the response.

    Guess I pulled it out context in the heat of the moment as it were. Suppose that could be my bad but when I have complained about "fraudulent" auctions on ebay it's in the response.
    The process they go through to yank a coin auction because they are not coin experts and won't hire one as it would be impossible to monitor all the auctions.
    That is true when you think of the volume - but suddenly they are yanking a coin because it's listed as MS65 but not slabbed. Soooo if cody had that in the SGS MS69 holder it would be acceptable because they are "legitimate fraudsters".

    Yeah! Tell me ebay doesn't know what's going on.

    Now assuming that ebay didn't just stumble upon this auction someone must have reported it.

    Serious question for Cody. Have you really made someone mad recently?

    Maybe E-Bay does not know that if coin collectors get mad enough with this fraud stuff they could be paying out of there pockets someday.

    IMO
    STOP complaining to E-Bay and star with your congress people to start investigate

    So now your not allowed to grade your own coin, a company (no matter how inaccurate) has to grade them. that is just not right

    They will not accept MS-65 but I use MS65 all the time :)

    Update:

    I wrote eBay customer support

    Today I received the answer

    I would like to know how they expect people to follows rules when they do not bother to tell anyone what the rules are.

    That's not the way I understood it. If raw, you can't use a numerical grade - but you can still list.

    But I'm not defending e-bay. I agree this whole thing is absurd, particularly since they arbitrarily "enforce" it.

    A mumerical grade is the same as a ajective grade.

    My follow up to my previous question;

    and their reply;

    They totally avoided the first question, but that is a lot more than I expected on the second question.

    OK, if ebay does not use professional numisaticists to look at auctions, how are they going to decide which company is a "self-slabber" and which one is a professional outfit? If they use volume of sales you're looking at NCG, PCGS and probably SGS... and when they do pick, that is just going to drive the prices up on some slabbers, and make the others more desperate. They cannot really win...

    I mean, ebay really gets my goat as it is on many auctions, trying to make as much money as possible and swep everything else under the rug, but once they start putting their hands in this cookie jar, where will it end? No raw coins on ebay? Is ebay going to work with some 3rd party company to "certify" something as "graded by a professional"? Is there going to be an official grading company of ebay (...AHGH...SGS buys the contract!!!)?

    It makes my brain hurt!

    Well done Rlm, WOW, you got more out of them then I did, thats for sure.

    Yeah, I was wondering the same thing...anymore raw coins on ebay or an Ebay official grader, like the ANA and NGC contract.

    You've made some great and scary points here David. So ebay is really going to start digging into it.
    They do not profess to be coin experts yet they are leaning to "legitimate" slabbers. All of this with no idea who "legitimataly" slabes a coin.

    Many here on CT have reported obvious fakes, overgraded coins ets. This may have had an effect. Only problem now is they don't really know what to do about it.

    Many large and legit sellers have left ebay because selling a raw coin that was totally graded correctly could not garner the money it should. I have bought from these people on their own sites. They just don't want to play the ebay "game" anymore.

    Ebay lost money on these sellers while gaining on the garbage slabbers. Now ebay may be backpeddling as people are asking for honestly graded coins. Only problem is that they have no clue how to do it.

    Ebay just may be diggin a hole that they don't know how to get out of.

    Clembo is correct.

    As a power seller, I am sitting on the fence as far as the coins go. May just ramp up the hotsauce again and do a totally non Ebay coin thing. Am in the middle of a website update right now, and when done, may have another built for coins.

    Scammer and self slabbers just bring the prices down on the good stuff. I had a NGC -65 Morgan go for just $95 last week.... I start them all at .99 no reserve, but if you start them at bid or even close, they go unsold. Everybody wants a bargain, only way to get on is to buy a SGS-68 for $40.

    Go figure

    For what its is worth, I reported 10 coins listed with numeric grade (from a seller who sacammed me). All 10 are no longer there. Despite this, I still have no problem finding numeric graded raw coins. I am not sure how serious they are about this, but I will bet that if someone took them to court, eBay would loose (at least the fees lost) until they publish their rules. I cannot believe that they pull listings for violating rules that are impossible to find. As idiotic as eBay sometimes is, that just makes no sense even for them.
