As everyone knows this is a common Morgan, but not so common in higher grades. I had a friend in a bit of a financial pickle and gave him a $200.00 for this coin. I wouldn't pay this much normally buy It was kind of a favor. In AU 50 it graysheets for 170, in AU 58 it graysheets for 300. MS60 is $470, I don't think it will grade there. Who knows. Just one of those things I need reassurance with. Whether it be keeping it raw or sending it in. If I did send it in, it would be to PCGS.

Thank you all in advance! :):) IMG_0579.JPG IMG_0580.JPG

No breast feathers left on the reverse........keep it as it is.

I'm seeing maybe AU55 on a good day? It looks to have real nice luster, though.

I don't think you'd get an unc. grade out of it, or even a 58. IMHO, coins like this are fine uncertified.

It does have a little luster left on it. Such an oddball condition. If I sell it in the future ungraded, potential buyers will guess low on it. Graded will kind of take a lot of the guessing game out of it. That's where I'm torn.

No. Waste of time grading it.

I'm in agreement with the others, mid level AU on this one. Broken luster also suggests as such.

This was pretty much what I was thinking, just wanted some reassurance. I'll put it in a flip and toss it in the pile. On to the next adventure.

Thank you for help, much appreciated.

I wouldn't exactly "toss it in the pile" in the "chalk it up to experience" sense; the luster would likely net you AU50 without trouble and at that grade you are not really underwater at $200. You received solid value for your favor, without taking advantage.

It's VAM-3, easily determined by one of the farthest-right dates in the entire series. Not a value-adder, but interesting to the VAM nerds among us. :)

It's circulated and it shows it. It does have a nice die crack on the reverse but not worth grading. You bought a nice coin at a fair price so be happy and leave as is.

Based on what @Morgandude11 told me in my AU Morgan threads, this coin is no higher than AU-53.

Agreed. I would say less than that. I would go with AU 50. Fairly noticeable wear on high spots on the obverse, and no feathers on Eagle's Breast. I would say borderline AU. Could even get a high XF grade if the grader was tough that day.

If it was a "better" date, but it's not. Nice as is. FWIW, I like coins like that, especially Carson City's - it's ok for my grandaughter to hold it in her hand - much better experience than a slab!
