I don't like the look of either of them, but I haven't checked every detail to make a call either way. The 46 looks cleaned.

Both are cleaned. Don't send them in. It is a waste of time and money.

    Even on a 48 philly?
I thought it was a tough date for seated halfs and in a high vf/xf grade would easily cover grading costs plus the security of being authenticated.

Both have problems. The 1863 has a granular look which could be from corrosion, or it might be a fake. It has also been scrubbed. The 1848 is genuine, I think but has been cleaned and would probably not be straight graded.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

The rounded, mushy letters and missing dentils on the 63S make me suspicious. The 48 looks genuine, but it has been harshly cleaned (it will absolutely get a details grade). Neither of these are worth submitting.

    Got these in hand today.
    The 1863-S weighs 12.3g
I think it is a legit coin. It's just been badly cared for.

The 48 looked a little better than the photos in hand but still cleaned

Please don't take offense at this, but honestly - why did you buy these coins? They both have problems, they have both been cleaned, and the1863S has some serious environmental damage. They are highly unattractive.

Unless you have a strong reason for buying them, I would recommend returning these things.

They were purchased in a estate group of bulk junk silver in a buy all or none deal. I bought them at a attractive price even though the coins may not be.

Much better pics, the 63s is damaged and environmentally challenged as well, but looks real to me.
The 48, despite the aforementioned issues, has a cool repunched date and nearby die crack.

Depending on the price I see nothing wrong with buying them. Nice repunched date on the 48 and I find the broken S mintmark punch on the 63 S interesting.
