    A Washington quarter spent by a coal miner coming home from work?

    Take a look at your picture. It is so dark, I could make out that it is a Washington quarter, but nothing else. Take a picture against a white background. Otherwise, just trying to be funny...:)

    OK, now I can (maybe) see what you are taking about. I have seen these kind of coins called "spooned" coins and "dryer" coins. If you take a con and repeatedly hit the edge with a spoon or a hammer, the edge increases in thickness while the coin diameter decreases. Eventually you can cut the center out and make a ring out of it.
