CAPS albums are the way to go. I took ALL my Silver American Eagles out of Dansco because Dansco toned, and in my opinion, ruined
about half of my collection. CAPS albums do not tone coins.

Can you post a pic of actual Dansco toning on the ASEs? I'm seeing ASEs getting certified with crazy toning and I just don't buy it - literally or figuratively. :)

They can tone in crazy ways pretty fast, especially if people live in the right area. PCI slabs were also very well known for putting a lot of color on a lot of them.

I have two Dansco ASE Albums, so far both are up to date. I started putting the ASEs in the albums in 1986 and none have toned after 30+ years. I think it might be that I live in New Mexico (yes, New Mexico is in the United States) where the humidity is extremely low. One is for my son and the other for my daughter, both have indicated that they would continue the series when they inherit them someday. One good thing about Dansco is that you can either add pages to them, they are readily available, or do a volume two like they did with the Morgan Series.

999 silver is highly susceptible to toning and can do so very, very quickly all by itself in the right conditions. Heck, just leave one out on your desk for a few weeks and you'll see.

I once thought like you. Proofs were pure and perfect. Never enabled to the breaking out process of the mint holder. Then I woke up.........they're not perfect and they're not above having a look at and holding in hand. Stop bloody bowing before these things.......they're blasted coins and meant to be manipulated in the manual sense............ just very carefully. :)

Couldn't agree with you more. In my opinion proofs are not real coins as they were never meant to circulate. They are just overpriced tokens and I would never spend more for one than I would for the underlying coin. On the other hand, I would not argue that they look nice and if I come across one at a decent price I am more than happy to buy it. I feel the same way about commemoratives.

I have a filled up to date eagle dansco also. I started it about 12 yrs ago. Was getting a little golden toning on some of them the last time I seen them. So now my coins have been in a non-climate controlled storage unit for almost 2 yrs now. I hope to be getting everything out in a couple months. Really curious about what a lot of my dansco album coins are gonna look like now.
