Toned Coins Only

You must admit a real accomplishment and some pretty spectacular coins. My hat is off to anyone that can remain this focused on a goal and accomplish it.

I don't think so, just written appeals to PCGS. Also if you crack it out you run the risk of a downgrade, which at this grade would be very risky.

 

Nice one and I see you had JB do some of his work on it. Photos are high quality. Did you do the pictures or did JB?

 

It was one of my first raw cherrypicks for a pathetic $50, dealer thought it was AT but I knew better, and I think part of my first bulk sub with him a while ago. I didn't know he was such a great photographer back then and didn't get it photographed until some months later by Todd at Long Beach

 

This made me wonder if any of my PCGS coins have their true view high res photos and I just didn't realize it. If someone at some point paid for the true view is it just on their site available with the cert #?

I have some cert searching to do tonight if so, would be a nice surprise if some of my nicer PCGS coins had beautiful images out there I wasn't aware of.

I can't believe someone passed him up. When this was being discussed back in 2015 on CCF it was ranked #1.

They often show up on the PCGS web site if you register your coin in a showcase or a set. I have never understood the rationale, but they do at times.

 

It's possible. If they do it will be on the cert page when you check the number.

 

^^^^ yep found one! Have a few more certs to look up but this one is perfect for this thread. This was the first toned coin I ever bought. Beautiful coin and lucky to have grabbed it especially since I had no idea what I was doing at the time. Real glad to have found the image too since no chance I could photograph it close to this well. You can really see just how incredibly clean this coin is with their nice images.

 

And now one key is to understand how much toning the coin has experienced. To my eye your dominant colors are in the first cycle of toning where light golds, amber, russet, and burgundy are present.

So this is very early color and the brighter colors would have come later with more exposure. There might even be a little cyan across the forehead and eye area, so some into early second cycle.

 

Keep looking. If you have any coins in Secure Plus holders then there is a pretty good chance that they are there. Good luck.

 

All secure plus have an image. The old ones are scans which aren't great but all the newer ones are TrueViews

 

You guys can pay hundreds or thousands for your toned Morgans, while I will be quite happy with the one I got for $17 back in December. Admittedly nowhere near as nice as the Sunnywood coins, I like it, and that is all that metters.

I think this fits the definition Einstein gave for insanity.

 

^^^ That's the great thing about it. Different toners appeal to different people, you don't have to shell out thousands to get one that stands out to you. I got both these at discounts and they're some of my favorites with how crazy the toning is:









Pictures don't do the 82 justice, it is wild in hand. Moving it around in the light is trippy with the different colors and the luster is booming. Got it for less than regular old white examples, actually way less. It's a 66 I paid 185 for.

 

Well my pockets are not that deep, but this is a really nice one. Excellent pickup!
