I often bid on coins with sixbid. I do this when the seller's web site is not in English or I can not make a live bid. I bid on a coin that matches my collecting interests and planned to make follow the auction live. That way I could add a bid or two if needed. But... I could not make their web page open the day of the auction. My prebid matches the high (winning) bid. I also know that when online bidding closed, my bid was higher than the listed start bid. I will now have to wait for the company to get around to sorting bids and get back to me. I have had bids that matched an auction's high bid and was told I was not the first bid at the price. This one would have been my first RS bar. It convinced me I had to bid higher than I thought previously.

The recent auction lot was 337 and this one was lot 337. Is that a bad sign, or do I worry too much?

Post something you matched the high bid, but did not win.

    Fingers crossed for you! :)

I don't recall any where my high bid tied an earlier bid, but I do recall a few instances of my Sixbid or Numisbid bid sheet not being processed by the auction house and losing a few coins I would have won had the bids been received. Their loss.

I hope you win it. Something somewhat similar happened when I was told I was outbid at my max bid but later found out that I had won. Here's the coin:

Neapolis, Bronze, circa 350-326 BC, 3.31 g. Obv: Laureate head of Apollo r.
Rev: Forepart of Achelous Sebethos as a man-faced bull to right; above, dolphin.
SNG Copenhagen 474. Historia Numorum Italy 575 var. Sambon 579 var. Taliercio Id, 7. MSP I, 223 (this coin illustrated). Rare. (Ex. Silingardi; Ex. NAC)

I'm always afraid of that happening since Sixbid is a third party means of submitting a bid. If at all possible, I always try to bid via an auction house's website.

    Good luck RR!

Same here! The fault was probably mine both times-- I should have submitted the bids earlier. I've only used a third party service when I wasn't a registered bidder with that auction house and didn't anticipate participating in those companies' auctions very often. It was easier than registering a new account (didn't work out very well though, did it?).

Since that time I went on to register with those auction houses but I don't recall whether I've bid with them.

Carausius Brother, can you spare a sestertius?

@rrdenarius , good luck. It has happened to me when a winning bid at my max was awarded to someone else who bid earlier. I can't remember the coin - I've blocked it out. I hope you get the ramo secco.

This happened to me just once - it was a couple of years ago, and the first time I placed bids through sixbids for a European auction. I don't have a record or recollection of what the coin was, but I didn't like finding out only some days later that I didn't win what I thought I did. Since then I've always bid directly with the auction house or not at all.

    Good luck with your bid!

I had an opposite experience last Roma auction. If anyone was watching that one they had a glitch that caused the auction to be delayed a week. I went in and checked the auction a few days before the closing and saw that the lots apparently were closing that same day. So...I put in a bunch of bids and won everything. A huge bill at the end of the day, about seven times by budget! I guess I won them all because everyone else was expecting the lots to close later and not on that day. Good for me I suppose, but now I have to sell a LOT of coins to pay it off!

Heck, when you decide to sell, let us know. We can help with the budget crisis. ;)

I eagerly await the new listings in your Vcoins store :D

Or are they already there? I'd better take a look...

Held by Fedex for customs documentation. 10 days and they never contacted me. Ah, the wonders of the 'system'. I am wondering if they will ever show up!

I found out this morning I was the winner! It took 3 tries to make my card company accept a new, to me, foreign company. They thought two European purchases in 48 hours was a bit much. I will not post the coin until it arrives. A hint is below.

I would have one a few coins in that auction had it not been extended and ended up with just one. Probably for the best.

    Congrats! :)
