It's actually good news, we've outgrown another server. I'm going to be purchasing a new server for CoinTalk in the next few days, which should give us room to grow over the next couple of years. What you can get for the money with web servers changes enough every couple of years that it's a good thing to get something new regularly anyway, and we're approaching three years since the last server upgrade. Thanks!
I'm a member of another forum (astronomy) that crashes about once a month. Great to see that this forum is managed so well, quite refreshing!
Wonderful! So if anything goes wrong with the next forum software update (whenever that would be), and people need help, we can say "It's all Mat's fault, ask him." In any case, thank you, Peter and Doug, for being awake and busy last night - and for bringing this "baby" back to life again. Christian
Thanks for keeping us posted, Peter. >I'm with Mat! Get rid of the "Thumbnail" or at least indicate that "Full Image" is the preferred method for uploading files. >Also, please let everyone know that the "Poll" feature is only an OPTION and does not need to be included in every new thread. Most newcomers don't understand that these two alternatives aren't the best methods. Bite your own tongue, Doug! Chris
Yes. After all the software SNAFUs over at Collectors Universe last year, and the user-unfriendly, counterintuitive platform they eventually landed on, I am VERY firmly entrenched in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" camp. I love these boards, because unlike even the new (not-fantastically-improved) CU platform, everything here actually works. Nicely. Well, except when it doesn't. But last night was a fluke. When this site is up and running normally, it can't be beat. Why do you think I came over here after 15 years and 60K posts on CU? Their new software sucks, that's why. (Plus I've grown to like the culture here.) Ain't broke! DON'T FIX IT! But yeah, by all means keep the server running. And thank you! Nice to see The Magnificent Oz Peter actually exists posts here occasionally.
Unh huh, ya know Chris I could always create a sticky at the top of every forum section that says something along the lines of - Thumbnail are always the preferred option for posting pics, and please post everything in the form of a Poll. Just for you buddy
Thanks for all the kind words. It's mostly about having good people supporting what you do, from the guys who created the forum software, to Matt W who helps me out when the server is too broken for me to fix, to all of the moderators and Doug, and all the members and especially supporters, because everyone who participates makes it worth doing.
Eh, Peter no worries. The downtime last night/this morning was the first time I can remember the site being down since the last time you updated the forum software! Hadn't visited that place in a few years and was shocked when I saw that they finally "upgraded." I've been trying to get used to the new look for about a month now; I still absolutely hate it. Same goes for the NGC board.
