Nothing that an offering to Mercury won't fix. He is the messenger God, so I'm sure for some incense he'd be happy to watch over your package.

Seriously, no one has any altars to Roman or Greek Gods so they may watch over your coins?

Seriously, I have been thinking about setting up an altar of Mercury for some time now. What is stopping me is deciding between a contemporary statue of him, an authentic replica of a Roman statue, or an actual ancient statue of his.

Obviously I don't believe there is a real deity named Mercury, I think we've all progressed beyond that these days, but since when is that an impediment to putting up an awesome looking altar to him? It would be cool from a historical perspective, as an ancient history buff.

Hi everyone - Having a great weekend?

@lordmarcovan - I remember reading your post about how you were waiting for a sale to conclude in order to purchase the other. I'm glad they will let you get the coin you want coin on lay-away.

@Sallent - If the coins don't show up at my door then the way I see it, they were not supposed to belong to me. I am not judging anyone - light incense and pray to whatever feels right. For me, I like that first commandment and stick to it.

@gregarious - The coins have minimum insurance. I did not pay much for them and I don't expect they have much value.

@Deacon Ray- Wow! Cool! That darn moth! No, you need not say more about that. But since I mostly collected cottons, and a few silks from Japan and Uzbekistan, I have not had a moth problem. I only have a few pieces of wool with the clan tartan associated with my mother's father.

Also, I was always super careful about fabrics when I received them. I have a special machine that anything (even my own clothing when I get it back from the laundry) must be put into to be sure no gremlin or gremlin eggs enter my space. I believe it is true what they say about an ounce of prevention.

It makes sense that I am interested in coins because 95% the fabrics I collected have circular or roundish or rectangle cellular or medallion motifs! Many contain metallic thread. I'm freaking myself out now!

Mine is a Christian shrine but has a large Acheloios statue on the main altar and many other deities:

    Then there is Livy's altar:

    And Nico just started his:

I repurposed an old caduceus so Zeus Meilichios is represented too (above Nico to right)

    Okay...a hint:

    No dame
    on the obverse
    but an exceptionally
    handsome man

Aha! As I suspected... a Curtisimo the Great denarius :wacky:;)

Hmmm is it an Augustus portrait denarius? He was kind of a dashing young fellow

    Want another hint?

    As we are talking about
    shrines and alters
    to entities or things
    not the Creator of Everything,
    it occurs to me
    my ancient touched my soul
and made my heart skip a beat
    because it reminded me
    there are earthly beings worthy
    of the deepest awe
    and profound respect.

    Third and final clue:

    It is not so much
    the person.
    It's the subject.
and since I am not a guy
    if you think
    like a doll
    with feminine emotions
that may help you come up
    with the answer.

(I think these three clues are really good and that when you see the coin it will all make sense.)

    Oooh, thoughtful hints! Fun :)

Antoninus Pius? While many probably wouldn't classify him as exceptionally handsome, viewed through the lens of his deeds, he is very attractive and he is certainly worth of respect :).

Are all of your hints about the obverse or did I miss something relevant to the reverse?
