I've been chasing this guy for a while, but usually his coins are a bit too steep for my current coin-budget ... oh, and this guy certainly wasn't cheap but he was within striking distance so I took the shot!!

"BAM" => another ruler in the bag!!

Clodius Albinus. As Caesar, AR Denarius
    Rome mint
    AD 193-195
Struck under Septimius Severus, AD 194-195
    Diameter: 18.5 mm
    Weight: 3.32 grams
    Obverse: Bare head right
Reverse: Minerva standing left, holding olive branch, spear, and shield set on ground
Reference: RIC IV 7; RSC 48
    Other: 12h … VF
Ex Group SGF (Classical Numismatic Group Electronic Auction 366, 13 January 2016), lot 844

    Clodius Albinus.jpg

In 2016, this coin went for a $306 Hammer ...

=> I scored it this week for a $180 Hammer!! (cha-ching!!) ... my price seems a bit more typical for the type, eh?

    I love this coin!!

Please post any relevant thread additions

Yah, I just thought I'd throw that rating-chart in for the new-comers that are always needy for a data-point associated with "red-book-like-ratings"

NOTE/CAUTION => as always this one data-point rarity-scale needs to be taken with a grain of salt (oh, and it was performed on Imperial coins only)

=> the rarity of those sweet P
rovincial examples can vary drastically from this Imperial rarity-scale

... but again, at least it is one data-point

I have never bought a Rome mint denarius of Albinus.

I did buy a rough As.

    An Alexandrian mint

And some of him as Augustus which are quite a but scarcer.

I like Clodius Albinus - fine looking fellow.

Martin showed what I consider the top items.

Rome mint 193 AD with COS but NOT COS II - This obverse die is common and unusual for the poor treatment of the eye rolled up. Many you will find with the PROVID AVG COS reverse will use it.

Rome denarius Aesculapius with COS II so 194 AD

Rome Felicitas - This is the type issued at Alexandria but they come from Rome also.

AE denarius (fourree core) with portrait that looks too much like Septimius and has a reverse suitable for Commodus
    rd0130bb0160.jpg

As Augustus with serious die clash which broke the reverse die leaving a cud. The reverse type is GEN LVG like the one Martin showed.
    rd0150b02071lg.jpg

There are nice sestertii portraits but many are not well struck overall.
    rd0120b00119lg.jpg

The rarity I'd like to add would be a Provincial. They are not common in any way but the twin portraits facing with Septimius and Albinus is on my want list.
