It's 90% gold, 10% copper, which makes it just under 22Kt. Expect it to weigh 8.24g.

got it for a steal, feel like it would of graded 70 if there was not that little spot next to the O in Ohio on the reverse...

Thanks Dave, but it's a $5 half eagle, I think the weight should actually be 4.18 grams, right? It's worth about $297 melt. Of course I would NEVER melt a gorgeous coin like this! ;)

Click the link I posted last. 4.18 is the weight of a quarter eagle.

Yeah that's where I got the melt value from. I got the weight from my red book as well. Thanks for the link. I bookmarked it.

Here's a toned Canadian Silver Maple Leaf I bought yesterday for $20.00. It looks like it had been laying on something with the word DOLLAR on it. You can see it on the obverse. Funny thing is I did not notice the letter's until I was photographing the coin. LOL

Trippy! That's a really trippy toner too. Looks AT at first glance but it's natural and market acceptable. Should PCGS straight grade. NGC would probably bag it though like they do with 90% of all toners

It looks like some kind of liquid was involved. I don't think it was intentional and who know's how long it took to develop the toning. The spot on the obverse at DOL is terminal and there is some kind of a ridge of residue left behind along that edge.

Probably stored in a paper envelope in a high humidity environment is my guess.

I wouldn't doubt that. I'm fairly confident that there was some sort of a pool of liquid on the obverse in there area that went terminal though.

Here's one I picked up at my local coin meeting. I had not been to a meeting of this club in about a year, and man am I glad I went tonight. I brought a few coins in to sell and placed them out on a table. I had a gentleman approach me and strike up a conversation. He picked up a 1924 Peace Dollar graded MS-64 in a small ANACS holder I had and asked me how much I was asking for it. I quoted him a price which he thought was fair. He set my coin back down and presented me with a small binder of coins. He asked me if I would like to look through it, of course I would.

Flipping through the pages, I could tell he had similar tastes as I do in coins. As I got towards the back one coin just jumped at me. It was a 1964-D Kennedy Half Dollar. The toning on it was absolutely stunning!! I asked him if he was interested in selling it. He told me that he would be. I was prepared for him to throw out a price of around $150.00 or so based on the looks and condition of it. My heart just about skipped a beat when he asked me if he could use it for $25.00 towards the price of the Peace Dollar I was selling. I kind of misunderstood him at first and thought maybe he was asking for the Peace Dollar plus $25.00 from me. So I asked him if that was what he meant. He told me no, he would give me $60.00 cash plus the Kennedy Half. So $25.00 for the Kennedy. I did not hesitate much and accepted his offer. He was very happy with the trade as was I.

Here's the Peace Dollar he walked away with. @Cascade may recognize it. It was an eBay pick that I paid $35.00 for. It has spectacular luster which is what the gentleman and I both liked about it along with the toning.

Here is the 1964-D Kennedy Half I got plus $60.00 cash. I think I did alright on this one. :) So this Kennedy cost me -$50.00 which is a bit under the $50.00 limit. LOL

I don't recall what I paid for this one as it's been in the safe for quite some time now raw. I pulled it out today I believe it was from a roll I purchased 20 or so years ago. I do know it was less than $50 more like $19 back in the day....1881 S That line on the reverse isn't a scratch but does go across the coins surface rim to rim. maybe some sort of strike through. A half eagle ($5 gold coin) should weigh 8.359 grams, a quarter eagle which is $2.50 weighs 4.18 grams. If your half eagle weighs 4.18 grams it's either a counterfeit or perhaps you are mistaking it for a half eagle when it's a quarter eagle. Or perhaps you just got the weight wrong and it's a half eagle weighing around 8.359 grams.
