gregarious => congrats on snagging your first Julia-D I still only have one lone example of this lady ... wanna see it? (again)
Beautiful portrait. I have only one coin of Julia Domna and I notice that it has the same hairstyle as on your currency. The empresses' hairstyles are a collection theme of currencies that some have chosen, it is sometimes very spectacular. JULIA DOMNA Wife of Septimius Severus, mother of Géta and Caracalla. Denier. A / IVLIA AVGVSTA - Hair in braids. R / PIETAS PVBLICA - The Piety standing and veiled before an altar. Weight: 3.55 g. Diameter 18 mm.
Your coin appears to be an AE denarius of the Laetitia reverse. These are often termed Limes (Lee-mace) on the theory they were produced for use near the limits of the Empire either semi-officially or to fill a need for coins beyond the regular supply lines. There is also a possibility that the coin is a normal silver denarius turned completely dark through burial. The style would allow either and I certainly could not say from the photo. Below is a normal, silver one.
Congrats on the first Domna @gregarious ! This is one of the Domnas that I have: RI Julia Domna 196-211 CE AE As Hilaritas cornuc RIC IVa 877
