Ok... it's 5:00pm. This 1881-S is in an old NGC fattie with the gold embossing on the back and was graded MS-63. I love these old NGC holders and this one unless it was over graded was going to come home with me either way. But I think it's a solid 64 today with a shot at 65.
I have not tried to VAM her yet. These I don't do, I typically look for the die break down the eagle's breast, the die chip on the wing or the die chip on the wreath. There are just so many other's, I just don't do them. I may take some time tonight and do it though.
Man great buy. I have a 78-S in an old Fatty and its an overgraded 65 (yours is WAY nicer). Lucky me! Do these old fatties tone the coins similar to the old tiny ANA holders? Have a few of those and yours has a real similar look i love it.
Thanks. I have noticed that some coins can develop a similar look to the old ANA ANACS holders. I've noticed it mostly on Morgan's though.
Yea, IN WISCONSIN surviving tornadoes. I was just barely north of one last night, and im not sure but i think i was in the middle of a rain wrapped one about 2 hours ago. The fun isnt over yet, theres another big bow & arrow shaped storm due to hit here any minute now. My exhaust came apart during the storm and i tried fixing it to no avail, i need an extra hillbilly w a hammer. Sidenote- im in Beloit Wi, right at the Illinois border, if u see this town on the weather channel 2nite, say a prayer cause it aint looking too good out here
Yeah im in the chicago suburbs. Its looking nasty out there right now and it came overhead fast Godspeed
Here's my only Morgan I have in an ANA holder. The coin is pretty unique. I love the color and the strike was so soft, you can still see the planchet striations left from when the strip of silver was being pulled through the drawing bench. The luster is fairly flat and silky, yet bright but, not flashy like an early 80's S mint might be.
Im actually sitting on a bench at the front door of walmart. (Truck is in the parking lot) Decided i would rather watch this next storm pass by inside a brick building, as opposed to the inside of a fiberglass body truck. Besides i can record a better video from here, i recorded the last storm but the truck windows fogged up too quick.
Just beautiful. It's like they designed those ANA holders knowing they would make my ideal coins with them. Here are my two recent old ANA holder pickups. The nicest 63 from eye appeal standpoint I've seen in hand yet (still not close to yours in the thread): And a super clean MS65 here that looks much nicer in hand than these pictures: And here's my old NGC fatty example:
Nice!! I've noticed that some NGC fattie coins can have a burned edge look. Personally I'm not a fan of it. The ANA's on the other hand can be simply astounding.
