It's my birthday, so I went out hunting for some good deals. I came across this 1881-S Morgan and it had to come home with me. It's currently the only 1881-S I have in my collection for now.

    Happy Birthday!

    Looks like an MS 64

Small white anacs holder? That hint of rim toning above Pluribus is similar to what I've seen on those types of Anacs holders.

It's a nice find and may be worthy of the MS 65 grade today.

    64. Happy birthday J. Mine is coming up in a few days too. You're bullish and I have a split personality though ;)

Thanks for the Birthday wishes everyone!!

I thought it was similar to the ANACS look as well, but it's not in an ANACS holder. It is in a holder that produces similar toning though. ;)

I can't see any way that's less than a 65, not sure why so many 64 guesses.

That's exactly my type of coin by the way if you ever get bored with it let me know! :D

Thanks man. I just turned 42 which apparently is the answer for everything. LOL

    Everyone is guessing 64 because it's an '81-S. The '79-S - '82-S Morgan's are graded on a different scale.

Yeah I know that (and forever am torn about how I feel about it). I have quite a few 79-82s' from 65-67 and this one fits right in with them. If you got this inside a 64 or below slab you got one hell of a bargain but maybe I'm overestimating the eye appeal since it happens to be my kind of eye appeal specifically.

That indeed is what I was referring to. I've never actually seen it, but I've seen the reference being used.
