If anyone missed this thread and is keen on being entered for a chance to receive the silver denarius (Coin A) in the pic on the first page, I'll be taking names until the end of the day and announcing the winner tomorrow morning.

Young as in physiologically? Or new to the hobby? Because while I'm new to the hobby I'm an ON. LOL!

Normally someone young in age, but heck, for an ON who is just beginning with Ancients I would consider you in the same category

Well I own just one Ancient. I actually bought it off of Amazon, you know, that haven for serious numismatics? I can hear the groans!

Not sure its worth anything but it's kinda cool, and it was cheap! What do you think of this coin? It's got a COA, not that that means anything.

You are correct. Most COA's are not worth the paper they are printed upon. Unless it's from an expert like David Sear et al.

The coin is a decent Late Roman Bronze (LRB)from Siscia. Very common in this condition and not very expensive - perhaps $10-$15 tops. But hey, it's a start right?

Yeah I paid $14.99 for it, and I just checked and the same seller is selling them for $8.88 now, 1 month later. I could almost buy 2 of them now for the price I paid then. That just irritates me. :rage:

It happens often enough. Buy one example then find others a little more budget friendly.

I believe you would be unlikely to do much better on this coin for the money. Many people charge extra for the Christian symbol on the standard and many similar coins do not have all the legends that this one does. If all of the new people who post their first purchases here did as well, this would be a much happier place.

Don’t feel bad, D-Train! Maybe the seller sold you the last of his high quality ones.
