Trust me! If the full images were necessary for determining what caused this, I would have posted them. Chris
I'd say die gouges - only because there are too many of them to call them simply 'die scratches'. It's also possible that the die was damaged from the feeder fingers scraping across the die in that area, although the one's I've seen are not localized only below the neck like this one is.....

When I tried to say that IMO, requesting an image of the reverse of the OP's coin was not necessary, this stored image was inserted instead! I could not delete it or leave my comment.
