Talking to a master technician who has refurbishes various types the United States mint presses. When it comes to the single strike doubling there are a variety of failures that could occur. No matter what kind of failure caused this doubling one thing is sure it is a single strike doubling occurrence. USMC60
Another thing I find interesting is the first photo. Take a close look at the Fort lettering. The top of the lettering is raised the bottom of the lettering is lower, now keep in mind all these letters are embedded in the planchet on a single strike. One thing I would like to see is a computer animation of this failure. I'm still trying to figure out how it can happen on a single strike and at the speed that it happens at. USMC60
