You know of course that President Lincoln was assassinated ( shot to death ) So look at this....Someone put ( shot?) a hole in his head and they even show that it came out the other side....Sick....
Anyone with a drill and a little time on their hands can do it. I've seen it done on Kennedy halves, too.
One day I decided I needed other things, besides what cent searchers usually look for, to keep my sorting eye/brain entertained, so I started collecting Lincoln injuries. I now have a wide array of head injuries of various sorts, face, ear, nose and throat injuries - stuff like that. (I know, I need a life).
I don't think that (in regards to a "life") at all. In fact, I think it great you've found a little niche that you enjoy. As long as you know the coins aren't worthy of a premium or try to convince others they are, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it no matter what anyone else does, says, or thinks. Kudos to you.
I don't think it's scary.. I think it's morbid There have been about 3 other threads over the years talking about Lincoln Assassination Cents... I jut also think it's disturbing..
I agree with Paddyman98, that my collecting injured Lincoln cents is morbid. I mentioned that there was more than one thing I decided to search for that was outside the normal cent searcher's interest. I also search for coins that have the name of G-D destroyed or damaged. When I find those, I make sure they do not continue in circulation. I do not really collect them. I want to stop the name of G-d going around in a damaged condition. I think that balances me out and makes my injured Lincoln coins less disturbing. I hope so!
I must admit that I find the "god" thing somewhat disturbing (that pesky freedom of thought issue), but to each his own.
@BooksB4Coins, @paddyman98 I'll just carry on with what I'm doing. I was also keeping my eye open for Lincoln monument cents with no visible Lincoln seated in it. Only found 2 of those.
I have to think that along side all the "good" people in the world there is more than likely a even amount of weird, sick people.....You have to keep a balance I guess. For someone to damage coins trying to show the damage Presidents Lincoln and Kennedy's assassination caused them is without a doubt a very sick and un-human person(s)....I think about Mrs. Kennedy sitting right next to her husband when the shooting happened......And guess what? all the other sick people out there liked seeing those coins damaged like they were....And who can tell me how in the world a country that has GOD printed on all their coin money refuses to recognize a GOD of any kind??....And where does the government use the phrase, "So Help Me God?" One word...Wow
I assumed the Lincoln cent damage I find is unintentionally caused from using the coin in commerce. I do not look for coins that looked drilled through by someone trying to make that damage in that place on the coin. I certainly am not adding any damage to the coin; but, some of the marks can be interesting. Perhaps I will photograph a few good examples and put them up here so members can see what I am talking about. But I don't have time to do that now. Perhaps later today or tomorrow.
