Here's another coin I won in the latest Frank Robinson auction: Parthian Kingdom. AE chalkon (10 mm). Vologases VI (208- c.228 AD). Obverse: Bust of Vologases VI left. Reverse: Eagle left. Sellwood 88.29. Vologases VI has the dubious honor of being the last Parthian king. He took the throne in 208 but soon faced a rebellion from his brother Artabanus (either IV or V, depending on which reference you trust). Artabanus took over most of the Parthian territory, leaving Vologases in control of Babylonia. The vassal Ardashir V of Persis rebelled and killed Artabanus in 224, declaring himself Ardashir I and starting the Sasanian Persian dynasty. Vologases seems to have survived a little while longer; it is unclear exactly when Ardashir finally conquered Babylonia, but it was most likely in 228 or shortly afterwards. Vologases' final fate is not even recorded- whether he was killed in battle, taken prisoner, or managed to escape and live in exile is unknown. This coin is in better condition than most Parthian bronze. I won it at a final hammer of $67, which is quite reasonable.
Nice! The detail on the AE is great. I really do not have many from Parthia, none that are a great AE like yours. I will comment that the 5 that I won at Frank's auction were fantastic! His pics are "not the best", although his descriptions are great. When I received mine, I was REALLY impressed and happy! The coins were spectacular.
