Saw that on the History Blog this morning. It's crazy cool though. This Dino fossil is even cooler. http://www.nationalgeographic.com/magazine/2017/06/dinosaur-nodosaur-fossil-discovery/
that's kool stuff randy.. i was just looking at some trilobites to buy a few days ago, then started asking one of my G+ peeps cause she had some what she called "dino poop" for show.. i need to get back her on that i have some fossils i've found..somewhere here in the house
Also last night we went to a rock concert. George Thorogood & The Destroyers Rocked us with songs like "Bad to the Bone", "One bourbon, one whiskey & one beer", etc. Also playing last night was James Zap & Nick Trautmann. Row 7 is perfect for this kind of show. You are close enough to be part of the party at the stage. However you are also far enough away so you can't see all the wrinkles on stage. There was much bourbon, scotch, & beer consumed. Thorogood apparently doesn't use a guitar pick but Zap gave me one for the collection: A good time was had by all.
Great fossils (and picks) everyone! I walked down into a Pennsylvanian formation (280-310 million years old) and had a pretty good day. Found a number fossils...bi-valves, crinoids, corals, but the best was this Solenicus gastropod. In situ. Been out there for 300 million years. What a rush! In situ. In hand.
Gawd this was so awesome!! Thanks to all for sharing your treasures! Ozzie is gonna be here during Sturgis, woo Hoo!! And I wanna run out & take pics of my fossils I pile in the yard, I wanna go rock hunting with you guys! I need to calm down & go to bed tho, you guys rule !
Hello randygeki. I never posted my big quartz crystal in your thread. Here it is: Here's the story about how I found this piece. I was hunting quartz at a mine in Arkansas. We had paid the mine owner a few dollars so we could rock hound around. I was pretty tired & was just sitting on the ground taking a break & drinking a Snapple ice tea. While sitting there, I was just randomly striking the dirt with my hammer. I wasn't looking for anything. I was just striking the dirt with my hammer. Then there was a loud "clunk". I just randomly found this big piece there in the dirt. It became pretty obvious that all the dirt was mine debris from where the quartz mining was focused. It was just a random lucky find. It cleaned-up nicely after several hours with the water-pick and some boiling in Oxalic acid. On my next trip to Arkansas I tried diamond mining. Unfortunately, I came back empty handed.
That's a beautiful cluster! When I was a kid we used to find occasional quartz clusters and arrowheads in the (rural) neighborhood. Now there are houses on much of that land so I don't find much of anything interesting when I visit .
