Might be the lack of PPQ destination that you are seeing, or, by "off" did you think it should have been higher?
This is my collection of 1934-1934D* $5.00 SC's. These are also not new acquisitions but I wanted to share because of the interest in blue seals lately.
Really cool notes you have there! I don't blame you for investing in these.. I about went nuts this week watching the Board of Trade commodity prices. The only thing that went up was Bitcoin... and it's more worth almost 500 bucks more than an Ounce of gold. ok, back to the notes.... looks like your Series 63A is uncirculated and may be gem , and it is actually called a legal tender or United States Note. The other note is a silver certificate. Believe it or not the Red Seal is worth more, not just because of condition, but there were fewer made. It could be worth 45 bucks. The silver certificate if it were in the dame condition would be worth $20. But it's probably a 58 or making it worth about 6 to 8 dollars. Congrats on your first cool U S. note and silver certificate acquisitions. They look pretty good!
My first error note. Offset Printing. Pretty dirty, but I like it.. I do not usually collect errors but I had to have one for the collection.
That left side is nice Valpo. And you have to go back to 1898 (I think) to find a $2 silver certificate.
Starting the paper currency collection off with some blue seals. After a week and some patience on eBay I was able to piece together the 57 $1 SC set in ch cu for under $50. I now have the itch to start working on the $5 and 10 53s.
That will be quite expensive if you intend on them looking like those One's. The 1957B* is $20,000 in that Gem Condition 14,000 in CU, & in VF $3,500! The other 1953 Seies 5's stars are more reasonable.1953 _$120 & $95 for the 53A in Crisp Uncirculated condition. But if you got all those notes in the pic for under fifty...YOU CAN DO IT! Good luck to you!
I managed to get them from two separate auctions. The three non stars went for 15 and the stars were 31. And I think the $5 53B* will be like the 09SVDB hole in my wheatie Whitman lol. But I appreciate the vote of confidence! If I have that kind of cash sitting for a bill I'd probably leave that slot empty and get a really nice 1896 or 1899 $5 SC. Id rather have a nice bill of another type that I really like than another one of a type I have to close a set...in that price range anyways.
Disclaimer: This is going to sound like a PCGS Ad I do not work for them, or any of their interests. You could submit your notes, "a full set of 57 Ones plus stars" to PCGS, if you decide to join, and you can register them to compete with others and you get 6 free submissions when joining.. That would be 7 after the grades are assigned, becuse of this BENEFIT: "3. Free Submissions. We recognize that not every note in every important collection has been graded by PCGS Currency. In order to encourage participation in the PCGS Currency Set Registry program we are offering the following free submission benefits for sets that reach 90% completion: If the set composition is 1-9 notes you are entitled to 1 free submission. If the set composition is 10-24 notes you are entitled to 2 free submissions. If the set composition is 25-49 notes you are entitled to 3 free submissions. If the set composition is 50-99 notes you are entitled to 4 free submissions. If the set composition is 100+ notes you are entitled to 5 free submissions. Free submissions are for notes within the set that has reached 90% completion. You should request your free submissions with the intent to either add or upgrade your set with the notes that are being graded for free. All notes must be submitted at one time. If your set has reached 90% complete and you have not previously received free submissions for this set, please contact with your name, address and phone number. You will be sent by U.S. mail a submission form to be used exclusively for your free submissions. It is your responsibility to pay for postage and insurance." After you register the set, people then contact you to buy the set, if you say they they are for sale on their site..... but they remain your accolade. So.... Would you consider posting the backs of the notes? We can asess them collectively on here, We have some good digital picture graders on here, MPCUSA for one, and I believe there are many more . You could have some really high grades there. May be worth it. Especially if you can beat the number 1 collector... then you get to go to the awards dinner and receive an award and worldwide recognition.
I will post both sides individually one here later today and appreciate the input. I'm new to paper currency so I'm a sponge and want to learn as much as I can from people that have been in it. The corners are clean and square and going by the grading descriptions I'd guess they are up there (64-66) with PPQ. I couldn't believe how nice they were when they came in the mail yesterday. I just thought this series was common enough that, even if graded, they wouldn't fetch the price of the grading plus what I paid. I would keep them but it would be nice to get them graded and start the online collection. Will update with pics this evening.
First impression..... I just took a quick glance at the notes..... I REALLY LIKE THE COLOR on the 57B Star Note. The centering looks good. Margins look even and clear. That's my favorite at first glance. I'll take a better look after I get home later this evening. The pleasure is all mine... But I think MPCUSA, I learned from his course on grading, might have a better eye for grading, also I'm sure others who post regularly know much more than I and hopefully will put their input in too.
